MEDICARE FFS COMPETITIVE BID

Dear Doctor,

You may have heard that The United States Congress passed legislation which requires Medicare to select specific companies to provide durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (collectively known as DMEPOS) to Medicare Beneficiaries.  As mandated by Congress, Medicare Conducted a competitive bidding process and selected a limited number of DMEPOS companies to provide these services to you and your patients. You may have heard about these changes in the news media as Medicare’s “DMEPOS Competitive Bid Program” In the State of Florida, these changes took effect on July 1 2008 in the following metropolitan areas:

  • Broward
  • Miami Dade
  • Lake
  • Orange
  • Osceola
  • Palm Beach
  • Seminole

We at the Florida Medical Association remain committed to support our members by providing you with information on these important changes to the Medicare DMEPOS program.  It is our view that the new DMEPOS Competitive Bid program will cause the least disruption to your practice when you work with one provider to supply all the DMEPOS items and services your patients need.

Because Medicare has selected All-Med to provide more DMEPOS products and services than any other company in Florida, only All-Med can offer you and all your Medicare patients the most complete range items through one single provider. All-Med currently serves 1,600 Florida physicians – more than any other single DMEPOS provider in Florida to receive a Medicare contract.  A full list of all the DMEPOS providers selected by Medicare may be found at Medicare’s official DME Competitive Bid site at www.dmecompetitivebid.com/palmetto. On this site you will also see other important information on the DME Competitive Bid program.

If your practice includes Medicare Fee for Service beneficiaries in Miami-Dade Broward, Palm Beach, Lake, Seminole, Orange and Osceola Counties, you may call All-Med at 1-800-369-1416 Ext. 533 for the following medically necessary items and services:

  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices
  • Respiratory Assist Devices (RAD's) and supplies
  • Hospital Beds
  • Standard Power Wheelchairs and Scooters
  • Walkers
  • Mail Order Diabetic Supplies
  • Enteral Nutrients
  • Oxygen Equipment and Supplies
  • Support Surfaces/Low Air Loss Mattresses (in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach only)

In the coming weeks, the FMA and All-Med will be working together to develop educational materials which may be helpful to you and your office staff through the transition to the new Medicare DMEPOS program. If you would like a member of the Provider Services team at All-Med to brief you and your staff on the new Medicare program, please feel free to contact them directly at 1-800-369-1416 Ext. 533

Most sincerely,
